Concept art, as in “real games”

I have been suprisingly productive lately. First I created those funny monsters  (check previous post), then I whipped up a Bog Imp, flying insect-like thing in mere seconds (well, it did actually take bit longer, to tell the truth) and now I have created a beautiful ghost mage lady.

And this is just the graphics side of my activities. Yesterday I did some coding work also. I added some teleporting functionality to the world map,  and now I have a world map that acts as large scale navigation system (as always, there is some additional coding needed to make the feature complete).

The World map will have its teleport “hotspots”.  By clicking the hotspot you will be teleported to the location instantly. Map Hotspots are activated once you reach an area with such teleport, so the map will update  while playing, and it will be easy to visit earlier locations with it.

Also, the latest visited “Map teleport” will act as resurrection spot if you get killed. So you always get kicked back to this spot when dying in a dungeon. This makes level and story design easier: you can create story arch based on these spots, making them as “chapter” starting/ending  points.

This also helps player immersion, since now the user can get the “big picture” of the world, and can see his/her advancement in the game, and has spatial view to the story, which strenghtens the feeling of “being there” – very important thng in my opinion.

Oh, I nearly forgot, here is the Bog imp:
